Ryzen CPUs have integrated graphics

AMD has been doing big lately with its Ryzen processors. After years of practically zero competition, Intel finally has to compete with AMD so that consumers don’t switch to Team Red. Ultimately, this is a win for consumers, as recent processors from both camps offer excellent gaming performance and good value for money.

However, there is a big difference between the two. Most Intel processors have integrated integrated graphics. If you just bought an AMD processor, you might be wondering if Ryzen CPUs have integrated graphics.

Do Ryzen CPUs have integrated graphics?

Most AMD Ryzen CPUs do not have integrated graphics, which means they do not have dedicated graphics built into the CPU itself. Instead, these CPUs rely on a separate graphics card or GPU to handle the graphics processing tasks needed for games and other demanding applications.

However, there are some Ryzen processors that have integrated graphics. These are known as Ryzen APUs. While the integrated graphics cards on these chips aren’t as powerful as a dedicated GPU, you can still get decent performance out of them.

This is especially true if you go for something like the Ryzen 5 5600g. While the Vega 7 graphics in the 5600g aren’t anything to write home about, you can still get decent performance if you’re currently unable to purchase a graphics card. It should get you working with most esports titles with playable settings.

Does integrated graphics matter?

As we just mentioned above, most Ryzen CPUs lack any form of integrated graphics, and APUs are an exception. They are manufactured solely to serve as processors. However, their processing performance is generally good enough that it doesn’t matter, as most people will buy a dedicated GPU for gaming either way.

However, integrated graphics can be important at times. For example, if you’re having problems with your graphics card, you can switch to integrated graphics to get temporary display output from your PC. This comes in handy when you’re trying to troubleshoot your gaming PC.

While integrated graphics aren’t suitable for demanding applications or use cases, they can still be important. If you can’t afford a graphics card right now or your current one has stopped working, you can switch to integrated graphics to give your PC at least a little leverage.

However, AMD believes that most gamers don’t use integrated graphics much. Dedicating silicon to integrated graphics increases the cost, which is why most Ryzen CPUs lack integrated graphics.
