Tom Brady held nothing back following the Buccaneers’ most recent loss, a 35-7 embarrassment at the hands of the 49ers that dropped Tampa Bay to 6-7 on the season.
Speaking with San Francisco Chronicle NFL reporter Michael Silver, Brady was surprisingly candid about his emotions following the latest development of this troubled season, in which he was seen running from Levi’s Stadium without a shower.
“Some things I just don’t give a damn at this point,” Brady said, half-smiling, according to the report. “Fuck yourself. I’m going home.”
Brady famously grew up in California as a 49ers fan and had a large number of friends and family in Santa Clara for Sunday’s game. But what could have been a triumphant homecoming ended as a blowout at the hands of 49ers third-string Brock Purdy, who was drafted with the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and drew comparisons to Brady himself for his late draft status.
When asked how his fans reacted to the loss, Brady was again direct with his answer.
“I’m sure they left, that’s what they did,” Brady said. “I don’t want them out there in this shit. It was horrible. We sucked.
Brady completed 34 of 55 passes in the game for 253 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. On the season, Brady is 33rd among NFL quarterbacks in yards per attempt (6.2) and 19th in passer rating (88.9). The Buccaneers have struggled since Bruce Arians stepped down as head coach in the offseason, moving from second in points per game in 2021 to 28th in 2022.
Brady had a tough year both on and off the field. He recently finalized his divorce with supermodel Gisele Bündchen after 13 years of marriage. Tensions have reportedly escalated after Brady returned to the NFL for his 23rd season this year, having initially retired this offseason before changing his mind.
As the Buccaneers battle their way to another playoff berth in the weak NFC South, frustration seems to be coming to the future Hall of Fame quarterback.
