One of Dubai’s most popular beach destinations for locals and tourists alike is undergoing a redevelopment with some of the biggest names in the F&B industry. Restaurants and shops are demolished in La Mer South to make way for J1 Beach.

In a statement, Merex Investment Group, which manages La Mer, said the beachfront was “under redevelopment to evolve into the new J1 Beach, an extraordinary lifestyle experience centered around world-class beach clubs and restaurants.”

The day-to-night destination will open to guests by the end of 2023 with three bathing establishments: Sirene Beach di Gaia, Bâoli and Gigi Rigolatto. Alongside the three beach clubs, J1 Beach will also reportedly welcome a number of upscale restaurants, where guests can dine from sunrise to sunset while enjoying stunning sea views.

Demolition work has begun in the area and Dubai residents have reported the closure of several popular restaurants on La Mer South. Many were taken aback when they learned of the reconstruction.

Syed Furqan and his cousin Syed Aziz often visited the place and frequented the restaurants in La Mer South. “We had some regular food outlets there, including Aghatti, Falla and Maroush Almashi. We used to go there at least twice a month. We just returned from our vacation and heard this news,” the brothers said.
