Engage fire emblem is just around the corner, launching on January 20th. And on Thursday, a trailer introduced the new gathering place where you and your allies will spend your free time between battles: Somniel, a verdant floating fortress. In the trailer, the main character — with a huge mane of red hair and Colgate-butt-blue — traverses Somniel’s lush layout, showing off fun activities. Just like in previous Fire Emblem installments, this one promises fun shenanigans like flying Wyverns, shopping for cute outfits, fortune reading, and of course classic bonding activities like sharing meals and going fishing.
Somniel is chock full of places to prepare for your battles. In the game square you can buy armor and other items. There is a ring room where you can keep the rings you have collected and create new ones – a new gameplay element that allows players to increase stats. You can also fight in the arena to gain experience and do a series of battles in the Tower of Trials.
Best of all, there are plenty of activities to do with your allies in Somniel, like sharing (probably many) meals at the Café Terrace to boost your allies’ stats. You can also train together, read your fortunes, ride a sky wyvern through a course, and fish (of course). There’s a strange farmyard where you can take care of the animals you’ve found during your adventures: the trailer shows a cat hanging out with a donkey, a beagle and a camel. There’s also a very cute creature named Sommie who “has been here since time immemorial” and will grant good luck to those who are kind to her.
The trailer also showcased trendy customization options – you can buy clothes and accessories as different shades for you and your allies. You can also take a breather by taking a nap in your dank, huge bedroom; but a nice ally of yours might wake you up, some kind of… Animal Crossing: New Horizons villager showing up at your house.
Fire Emblem fans know how much of the series’ downtime between battles is spent chatting with allies and doing silly activities. In Fire Emblem: Three Houses players roamed the hallowed halls of Garreg Mach Monastery, spending activity points cooking fish kebabs and eating what seemed like 17 meals a day with the students, all in service of bonding between them before setting off to battle. You could sword fight Felix at boot camps, take Dorothea (and her silly hat) to choir rehearsal, or try to wake Lindhart from a nap.
Even Fire emblem warriorsthe recent musou version of the franchise, gave gamers free time activities to do with their students such as tea parties, horse riding and dusting.
I can’t wait to meet you Engage fire emblemand have fun with them on silly excursions and activities, even if it all has to end on the battlefield.
