How to maximize iPhone and Android battery performance

Whether you’re using an iPhone or Android, there are ways to mitigate the problem.

Apple has several tips on its website that iPhone owners can use.

Update to the latest software

Make sure your device is running the latest version of iOS by going to Settings, General and then Software Update.

Optimize your iPhone settings

Reduce screen brightness by opening Control Center and turning on the Brightness slider. Alternatively, go to Settings, Accessibility, tap Display & text size, and turn on Auto-brightness.

Also, when you use your device to access data, a Wi-Fi connection uses less energy than a cellular network. Turn on Wi-Fi by going to Settings and then Wi-Fi to join a Wi-Fi network.

Enable low power mode

Introduced with iOS 9, Low Battery Mode is an easy way to extend the battery life of an iPhone. Enable it by going to Settings and then Battery.

When the phone charges again, Power Saver mode turns off automatically.

View battery usage information

Manage a device’s battery life by monitoring the proportion each app is using, including background activity, background location and location, home and lock screen, and if there is no cellular coverage and low signal.

To view usage, go to Settings and then Battery.

Plug in and turn on your computer to charge your device

Make sure your device is charging if it’s connected to a computer. Make sure your computer is not turned off or in sleep or standby mode.

Android also has a resource for interested users. Notably, some steps only work on Android 13 and above.

Choose the right settings

According to Android, users can turn on a dark theme, delete unused accounts, turn on adaptive battery, limit apps with high battery usage, turn off keyboard sounds or vibrations, set the screen brightness to change automatically and let the screen turn off first.

Use the right power supply

Other power adapters and chargers can charge slowly or not charge at all and can damage an Android and its battery.

Avoid situations where your phone can get hot

Batteries discharge much faster in hot weather, even when not in use.

Occasionally drains your phone’s battery

“You don’t need to teach your phone battery capacity by going from full to zero or zero to full. We recommend that you occasionally discharge the battery to less than 10 percent and then charge it fully overnight,” says Android.
