Suitcases of cash. Phones and computers seized. High-ranking politician arrested.

The sprawling police investigation into allegations of “criminal organisation, corruption and money laundering” has rocked the European Parliament and the Brussels bubble. The list of people under investigation by the Belgian and Italian police continues to grow.

Here’s what we know so far:

Eva Kaili

Position: The former European Parliament vice-president from Greece, who was sacked on Tuesday afternoon.
Status of the investigation: Uploaded by the Belgian police. Still in the Brussels prison.


Alexander Kailis

Position: Eva Kaili’s father.
Status of the investigation: Arrested but released by the Belgian police.


Francis George

Position: Kaili’s partner and advisor on the Middle East and North Africa to MEP Andrea Cozzolino.
Status of the investigation: Imprisoned and charged by the Belgian police.


PierAntonio Panzeri

Position: Former Italian MEP and president of the NGO Fight Impunity.
Status of the investigation: Uploaded by the Belgian police.


Maria Colleone

Position: Pier Antonio Panzeri’s wife.
Status of the investigation: Arrested by the Italian police.


Silvia Panzeri

Position: Daughter of Pier Antonio Panzeri
Status of the investigation: Arrested by the Italian police.


Luca Visentini

Position: General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation.
Status of the investigation: Arrested by the Belgian police.


Not identified

Position: Assistant to MEP Marie Arena
Status of the investigation: The adjutant’s office has been sealed off by the police. Arena was not questioned, but she resigned as chair of Parliament’s subcommittee on human rights.


Marco Tarabella

Position: Vice-Chair of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with the Arabian Peninsula.
Status of the investigation: House searched by the Belgian police. He suspended himself from the Socialists and Democrats group.


Niccolo Figà-Talamanca

Position: Director General of the NGO There is no peace without justice
Status of the investigation: Uploaded by the Belgian police.
