Epic Games has instituted parental controls on all of its games to ensure the protection of children under 13.

Fortnite, the title of Epic Games, has asked players to verify their birthday when logging in. As it turns out, this isn’t just an issue with Fortnite, but other Epic Games titles like Fall Guys as mentioned by a Reddit user. It seems the reason Fortnite asks for your birthday is to mitigate the possibility of people violating parental guidance. The Entertainment Software Ratings Board rates Fortnite “T” for teens, which means ages 13 and up, among other official ratings that consider it equal.
Fortnite developers Epic Games have issued a new set of rules around parental consent, age-verifiable emails, and cabin accounts designed to ensure kids of all ages can enjoy these games appropriately.

Why does Fortnite ask my age?
Via Fortnite asking you to verify your age, you’re verifying Epic Games if you’re under 13. If not, you can continue playing. If a player indicates that they are a child, privacy laws may require a parent or guardian to provide permission to access an online game. To comply with these laws, Epic Games must verify that the person providing consent for your child to access this service is an adult.
All users will be prompted to enter their date of birth when logging in. Someone’s account will be considered a “Cabin Account” and they will be required to enter the email address of a parent or guardian to begin the parental consent process in Fortnite, if listed as such. This will not be a parental consent email will not be required if the player indicates they are over 13 years of age.
